What is a Blog?
A “Blog” is a shortened term for weblog. A Blog is an online journal intended for public use, and is usually updated frequently. A Blog is similar to a forum in the fact that you can post a topic where others can comment on it.

The Admin Control Panel

Configure ASPired2Blog

It is very important to configure ASPired2Blog before you use it. While most formatting is performed with HTML and style sheets, some database and system related information is stored in the database configuration table.

Admin Username — For security, changed the Admin Username to something you will remember.

Admin Password — See the proceeding item!

Blog Items Per Page — There are 2 places where your blog is displayed. The entire blog list is displayed with paged data. This is available to the Admin only. The other location is a shortened blog list that displays the only the most recent blog items. This preference sets the shortened limit.

Character Limit — This preference sets the maximum number of character that are allowed in a comment. The actual blog items do not have character limits.

E-mail Component — Select your preferred E-mail component that will be used for e-mailing the administrator.

Outgoing SMTP Mail Server — If you use a component that is not CDONTS, you may need to enter the SMTP Address for your mail server.

Admin E-mail Address — This is the E-mail address for the administrator.

Notify Administrator — Sets whether or not the administrator would be e-mailed when comments are posted.

Creating a New Blog Item

From the Admin Control Panel, click on New Blog Item and the blog editor page opens.

In the blog editor, you can create the text for your blog. The editor allows for HTML tags to format the text, add links and images to the text. The tags are displayed as this is not a WYSIWYG editor.

Author — REQUIRED. Enter the name you want displayed as being the author.

E-Mail — OPTIONAL. If you enter an E-mail address, it will be displayed as a mailto link and allow users to E-mail you.

Blog Item Title — REQUIRED. Simply, it is the title of the blog item.

Formatting — The formatting section assists you with adding formatting tags to the blog text.

Your Blog — REQUIRED. This is the actual text that will be displayed in your blog. You can paste text in here from other applications.

Convert Line Breaks? — This will convert the return characters in the blog text to <br>. This is not necessary when pasting HTML text from a HTML editor like Dreamweaver.

Enable Comments — This will activate the ability for users to add comments to the blog item.

Preview Item — This button displays a new window that shows how the formatted text will look.

Add a Comment

When a blog item has the ability to add a comment, the following editor will be shown. This editor is similar to the Blog Item Editor but it is simplified.

Name — REQUIRED. The name of the comment poster.

E-mail — REQUIRED. The E-mail address of the poster.

Formatting — HTML tag assistants for formatting the text.

Comments — REQUIRED. The user's comments.

Character Count — This shows how many characters are in the comment.

Editing a Blog Item

Any blog item can be edited. To edit an item, click on View Blog Items from the Admin Control Panel.
